Snapchat Launches In-App Store with 'World's First AR Superstar' Hot Dog Toy & Other Swag

It used to be that the best kind of swag was T-shirts and hats from your favorite music artists, but now the symbol of casual insider cool falls to the tech companies, and Snapchat has just joined the ranks of branded apparel purveyors.

On Thursday, Feb. 1, Snap Inc. launched its new product store within its app, selling everything from T-shirts to hats and even, yes, the dancing hot dog. The now iconic augmented reality character can now be yours as a plush toy, complete with removable bun and headphones.

Snapchat describes the toy as "the world's first augmented reality superstar," and the company's not wrong. Next to the dog selfie lens, the augmented reality dancing hot dog meme is the most popular and best-known icon connected to Snapchat.

However, to lay your hands on Snapchat's AR celebrity, you'll have to part with $19.99, a rather steep price for such a cheap toy (but I guess you can't put a price on the things you love).

Similarly, the other items in the store are priced at a premium.

The dog selfie lens shirt costs $29.99, the wink face sweatshirt costs $49.99, the "Bring Back Best Friends" sweatshirt costs $49.99, and the streak hat sells for $29.99.

If you have any doubts about tech swag being the new must-have items, look no further than Elon Musk (the founder of Tesla and SpaceX), who is keeping a running tally of how many Boring Company hats he's selling — and they appear to be selling fast.

Despite the relatively high prices, I'm going to bet that these Snapchat items will be much better sellers than Snapchat's Spectacles, which are oddly missing from the store as of this writing.
