Welcome Baby Yoda into Your Personal Space with Google Search AR

Cute green character in a robe standing on a wooden floor with holiday decorations in the background.

Google, you have something that I want. You may think you have some idea of what you are in possession of, but you do not. In a few moments, it will be mine...and it can be yours, too, dear readers.

That something, of course, is Baby Yoda...er, Grogu...from the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian. But you won't have to fight Mando or Moff Gideon to obtain him.

Now, if you search Google for either his colloquial label or his proper canon name, or even "The Child" as he was previously referred to by in show, you'll have the opportunity to view him in 3D and, on supported iOS and Android devices, then transport him into your physical space via augmented reality.

Previously, the only official Baby Yoda AR experience for mobile devices came through The Mandalorian app, but that app is only available for 5G-enabled Android devices.

Adding The Child to Google Search's View in 3D library opens up availability to more Android users as well as iPhones and iPads. However, while you can view animals in AR through Google on Safari for iOS, a query for Baby Yoda prompts you to download the Google app (such is life living under the rule of the Empire).

It's curious that it has taken this long to get the viral sensation into AR, seeing as how the character stole the show from the jump. Disney certainly knew what it had on its hands with the cute little porgs from The Last Jedi, as there was no shortage of AR experiences featuring the creatures. But let's not look a gift fathier in the mouth.
